Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 September 2026
Dolaby is an app for organising your clothes and suggesting outfits. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you control it. We write it to match what the app actually does today, and we update it whenever that changes. The Arabic version is the original; if the two ever differ, the Arabic one applies.
What we collect
- Account data: your email address, your name and your username. And what you choose to add: your gender, phone number, style preferences, profile photo, and the city you choose for the weather, if you choose one. Your password is handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store it.
- Your wardrobe: what you record about each piece (name, type, colour, brand, size, price, status and tags), the photos of clothes you take or choose, the outfits and collections you create, and the record of what you wore and when.
- Your approximate location, if you allow it: the app asks for your approximate location, never your precise one, once when you set up your account, to show you the weather where you are, and again whenever you ask to see it; it reads it only while the app is open. We round the coordinates on your phone to about 10 kilometres before sending them, and we do not keep them on your account or on our servers.
- Limited technical data: what is needed to run and protect the service, such as your account identifier and the times of operations.
What we do not collect
- Your precise location: the app does not ask for your precise location, and never reads your location in the background. If you do not allow location, you choose your city yourself in “Settings” (Cairo if you do not).
- Tracking: the app has no third-party tracking or analytics tools. The only ads in it are the ones you choose to watch, as described under “Ads” below.
- Payment data: when the subscription becomes available, payment goes through Google Play or the App Store, and your card details never reach us.
Why we use your data
- To show you your wardrobe and keep it on your account, so you find it on any device.
- To suggest outfits from your pieces. The basic suggestion runs on your phone itself.
- To suggest a piece's category from its photo when you add it. This runs on your phone (Google ML Kit), and the photo is not sent for this purpose. Describing a piece in detail from its photo is covered under “Artificial intelligence” below.
- To work out your numbers: how often you wore something, the cost per wear, and the pieces you have not worn in a while.
- To show you the weather where you are and take it into account when suggesting outfits. We ask the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) for the weather, with the rounded coordinates alone, and the Photon service (built on OpenStreetMap) for a city you search by name, with the city's name alone; neither receives anything that identifies you.
- Your phone number, if you add it: we use it only to contact you about your account, or in reply to a support request from you. We do not send ads to it, we do not share it with anyone, and you can remove it at any time from “Edit profile”.
We do not sell your data, we do not use it to choose the ads you see, and we do not use it to train any AI model.
Artificial intelligence
The AI features run on our servers and use Google's Gemini service, and they only work while they are switched on in “Privacy”:
- Describing a piece from its photo: when you add or change a piece's photo, we send the photo to Gemini to describe what it shows: the type of piece, its material, pattern, cut, how formal it is, and its season. This happens in the background without you waiting, and we save the description with the piece on your account. We do not send your name, your email or the piece's name with the photo.
- Suggestions (“Let AI pick”) and “Your style DNA”: when you ask for them yourself, we send for each piece: an internal identifier, the category, the colour, a description we derive from its data (its type, formality, season, and what the photo described), how often it was worn recently, and whether it is a favourite. We also send the style preferences you chose, your gender if you set it, and the outfits you favourited or wear often, as piece identifiers only. We do not send the name you gave the piece, its price, or your name, email or phone number.
We use Gemini on a paid plan under which customer data is not used to train Google's models.
You can switch this off at any time in “Privacy” in the app. When it is off, we send no photo to be described, and our servers refuse any request that would send your wardrobe to the AI, even one made from outside the app.
Ads
On a free account only, and only when you choose to, you can watch an ad in exchange for one AI pick, up to 3 times a day. The app shows no other ads, and none at all to Pro subscribers.
These ads are shown by Google AdMob. When you watch one, Google receives from your phone what it needs to show and measure it, such as your device's advertising ID, IP address and device type, under Google's privacy policy. We ask Google for non-personalised ads, meaning ads not chosen from your interests, and we send it only your internal account identifier, so that it can tell our servers the ad was completed and we can add your pick. Nothing about your wardrobe, your photos, your name or your email reaches Google through the ads.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. If you are in a country whose law asks for your consent, the app shows you a consent form from Google before the first ad.
Where your data is kept
Your data and photos are kept on Google Firebase (Google Cloud), whose servers may be outside Egypt. Google processes this data on our behalf, under its data protection terms. Data is encrypted in transit, and the access rules let only your account read your wardrobe and photos.
How long we keep it
- We keep your data for as long as your account exists.
- A piece you delete disappears from your wardrobe at once; it and its photos are deleted permanently after 30 days.
- When you delete your account from inside the app, we delete your account and all your data and photos.
- The one exception: if you redeemed an invite code, we keep a fingerprint of your email address for 12 months after deletion. It is one-way and protected by a secret key, so your address cannot be recovered from it, and it is linked to nothing else. We use it only to stop the same address from redeeming another invite code, and then delete it.
Your rights
Under Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020, you have the right to:
- See and correct your data: everything we keep about you is visible to you in the app, and you can change it.
- Delete it: from “Account & security” → “Delete account”.
- Withdraw your consent to AI processing: from “Privacy”.
- Withdraw location permission: from your phone's settings at any time, or by choosing a city in “Settings”.
- Contact us with any question or request about your data.
Children
The app is not meant for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material about how we handle your data, we will tell you inside the app before the change takes effect.
